Lord Jesus, for those of us who are angry at the mass hysteria, help us not add to the chaos by throwing voices of anger, bitterness, and distrust into the mix. Remind us that you have called us to be a people who are quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. Help us instead, to model and proclaim a steadfast assurance in your own love and provision.
For those of us who are unsure or indifferent, help us to still find reason to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. Let us not become numb to the real suffering of real people who are sick and dying, for even one death is too many. Help us to be sensitive to all suffering, no matter how small or large, temporary or eternal. But, may we be especially sensitive to the prospect of eternal suffering on behalf of those who are dying apart from you. Help us to take advantage of opportunities to explore our neighbor’s fears as they process the chaos in the world. And as you work in their hearts, may we point them to you, the only Firm Foundation. And as we engage in redemptive conversations, may our conduct be such that people have no reason to be offended apart from our words and deeds which proclaim that you are Lord.
